Dog Tracking with a gps....

I was wondering....There are products on the market that are called dog trackers, that are a collar and a unit that can track your dog in case he runs away. Some of them are just the collar, and you can track them from the web, or by call a phone number,

I was wondering, Is there something that I can buy, that will work with a normal gps, that will allow me to keep tabs on my dog when we go backcountry camping?

I beleive you would have to call into a GPS Tracking Center in order to track your dogs location, regardless of what type of GPS you use. As for using a normal GPS to track your dog, I don't see why this wouldn't be possible, since you can track other things with a normal GPS receiver. The only question would be, how would you securely mount it to your dog? It would really suck if your GPS fell off and was lost forever!

backpack

I have a back pack for my D O G. so that would be perfect.

BTW I am totally new to gps, i dont even have one...yet.

So are you saying that I could get 2 gps and put one on my dog and then be able to track him? I am not quite sure what I would need for a beacon that my gps could track
